He won't see it, but I wanted to send a shout out to one of my high school English teachers, Clark Blade. He and his wife were both recently diagnosed with cancer. :( Mr. Blade decided to make a fundraiser (to benefit Lance Armstrong's foundation) out of shaving his head, rather than waiting to lose his hair during chemo. Nothing about this surprises me...he was and is an awesome dude. Kick some cancer can, Mr. Blade!

'sup? Random thoughts on this Monday:

• The iPhone really is cool. Dan made me watch some of the Steve Jobs thing where he introduced the phone's features, and I have to admit that it'd be great to have one. Too bad it's priced way too high for me to even think about it. (I'm not even saying it's priced too high, especially in light of the fact that it's a phone and iPod and Internet communication device. It's just more than I'd ever be willing to pay.)
• Been a rough week or so in our house...Julia got a nice little RSV that developed into bronchiolitis, so she was home from daycare all week (Dan and I worked half-days to split the duties). She's much better now, although the doctor says this kinda thing tends to hang on for two or three weeks in kids. And, now Dan and I have both picked up the stupid virus too. Although this sucks, it reminds us that we've really been pretty lucky with Julia's health--she hasn't been sick much at all in her two years.
• Oh, and one other thing:

I'd like to interrupt this lengthy silence in order to remark that nearly 25 years after its release, Duran Duran's 80s music still kicks all manner of booty. Listening to it makes me feel great about life in general and makes me wish to high heaven I could dance.

Now that I think about it, lots of the music I loved in the 80s still sounds great to me, even though my taste is generally very different now than it was then. Whether it's because the music was actually good or because it sparks an emotional response, I'm not sure--probably a little bit of both.

Considering that I was listening pretty much exclusively to pop at that time and don't listen to any pop now, I'd think there would be lots of stuff I liked then that I am embarrassed by now. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Kajagoogoo? Yes please. ABC? Sure! Thompson Twins? More more more.

On the other hand, there's a whole set of music that I didn't get into back then that I can't get enough of now (*cough* U2 *cough*--although in fairness to me, I recognized the awesomeness of very early U2 even as a junior high girl--it's just that unlike the rest of the world, I tuned out around the Joshua Tree time).
